You know the sound.
That rip of claws through fabric. Always the same spot, the one she's decided is hers. You've tried the posts, the pads, the tree your cat has never touched once. She walks past all of it and goes to town on the couch. But the worst part was never the couch. It's standing there frustrated at an animal you love, who has no idea she's done a single thing wrong. After enough failed tries, it starts to feel like this is just life with a cat. It isn't.
She's not doing it to spite you.
Watch when she does it: when you walk in the door, right after a nap, on her way through a doorway. Many cats scratch at happy moments, and they mark the most-lived-in thing in the room. In your living room that's the couch. The spot she picked may be her way of saying hello.
It sheds the old outer layer of her claws, and that needs a surface with real resistance. Your couch arm has it.
A proper scratch is a full-body stretch against something upright and sturdy. Which is exactly what a couch arm is.
You can't train the instinct out of a cat. Foil, citrus, tape, and spray bottles all fight the why, so she moves to another part of the sofa, or waits until you've left the room. The Corner Scratcher works with the instinct. It gives her a better surface on the same spot.
It's about where.
You probably own a scratcher already. In a 2016 survey of 4,331 cat owners, about 7 in 10 of the cats that scratched where they shouldn't already had a scratching post in that same room. Having a post in the room isn't the same as having one on her spot.
The Corner Scratcher is an upright sisal board on its own wood base. Stand it against the arm she's already chosen and her favorite spot gets rough woven rope instead of fabric.
Put it on her spot. Then get out of the way.
Flat against the front or outer side of the arm she uses, not across the room. If she works two spots, that's two scratchers.
Rub your palms over the sisal before you set it down, and give her a treat the first few times you catch her using it. Catnip helps many adult cats; it does nothing for young kittens.
No yelling, no spray bottle. In a 2022 survey of 2,465 cat owners, punishment went with more scratching, not less. She just waits until you leave the room.
Some cats sniff or nap next to a new scratcher before they use it. Keep it on her spot for at least two weeks before you think about moving it.
Why she ignores the others
- Asks her to change where she scratches
- Stands wherever there's floor space, not on her spot
- Your couch arm stays exposed the whole time
- Stands at her spot, so she scratches where she always has
- Slim and upright, so it sits flat against the arm
- Sisal where her claws go

What changes at home
No more ugly throws draped over good furniture, no packing tape down the arm.
You stop policing the couch.
Worn rope on the scratcher is good news. It means her claws went there instead of into the arm.
The 60-day guarantee backs it: if she won't use it, or you're not happy with it, you get the product price and tax back, and you don't send anything back.
Questions
She has a post right beside the couch, and she still picks the couch. Why is this different?
Near her spot is not on her spot. This scratcher stands against the part of the arm she's already using. You stand it where the damage is instead of asking her to walk somewhere new.
Will she actually use it?
Nobody can promise what a cat will do. What helps: stand it right against the spot she scratches, rub your hands on it, and treat her when she uses it. If it's not for her, the 60-day guarantee covers you.
Will it work with my couch?
It's a flat board on its own wood base, so it covers the strip of arm it stands against (9 in wide on Standard, 10¼ in on Tall and Play), not the corner edge itself. Stand it against the face she claws most. Heights are measured from the top of the wood base: Standard about 21 in, Tall about 24½ in, Play about 23½ in including its wood cap. Leave some floor space beside the couch for the base.
Will it wobble or tip?
Stood flat against the couch arm, the couch is right behind it, so her pushes go into the couch. It isn't fixed to anything, so a hard pull can shift it; set it on a level floor and slide it back if it moves. If it arrives damaged or faulty, email us a photo within 14 days of delivery and we'll send a replacement or a refund, your choice. That is separate from the 60-day guarantee.
Which version should I pick?
Each version is $140. Tall is the tallest board. Play adds a hanging feather toy and a ball track in its square base, nice for a cat who likes to bat at things. Standard is the smallest.
When will it arrive?
It ships from our fulfillment partner's warehouse overseas. Orders leave in 1 to 3 business days, or up to 5 in busy seasons, then the trip to your door takes about 10 to 15 business days. Shipping is free and tracked. We pay the import fees, so there's nothing extra to pay at your door.
How does the 60-day guarantee work?
Email support@hushchews.com within 60 days of delivery. We refund the product price and tax, and you don't need to send anything back. The guarantee is one-time per customer and covers every scratcher in the order you claim it on. It covers the scratcher itself, not damage to your furniture. See refund policy.
Does anything attach to the couch?
No. It stands on its own wood base. No tape, pins or screws go into your couch.
Why does she scratch when I come home, or the second I sit down?
Often because she's glad you're there. Many cats scratch right after a greeting, after waking up, and on the way through a doorway. It's a feel-good habit, and the couch gets it because the couch is where you are. Give her sisal against that arm and the hello lands on the scratcher instead.
Should I trim her nails or try nail caps instead?
Trimming every couple of weeks limits the damage, but it doesn't change the habit, and caps and deterrent sprays on their own don't either. What shifts it is a better target on her spot, and a treat the first few times you catch her using it. Yelling or a water bottle tends to backfire; she just waits until you leave the room.
Can I buy replacement sisal?
Not right now. Sisal frays as she uses it; that's normal wear, and a frayed scratcher still works.
